PhD in Creative Writing
For the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Creative Writing,
students are required to complete a full-length creative work and a
substantial critical essay on a theoretical and/or critical topic
related to one or more aspects of the creative work.
To
be eligible candidates need to have a strong record of publication and
to have submitted an approved folio of creative writing.
Creative
writing is a vibrant and growing area within English. As a creative
writing candidate you will work with distinguished writers, and have
the opportunity to meet - and share ideas with - a lively group of
fellow students. The discipline actively encourages visits from
international writers who further enhance UWA as an exciting
environment for writing.
Creative writing staff include: Steve Chinna (Smith Street, and ongoing theatrical works) Dennis Haskell (The Ghost Names Sing, Unfinished Pleasures: Selected Poems) Van Ikin (Glass Reptile Breakout, Mortal Fire) Gail Jones (Sixty Lights, Black Mirror, Fetish Lives, The House of Breathing) Brenda Walker (The Wing of Night, Poe's Cat, One More River, Crush)
Since postgraduate study in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
disciplines involves research and writing in both depth and breadth,
English communication and Cultural Studies has developed a number of
structures designed to assist students along the way to completion.
