Welcome to English and Cultural Studies

The Discipline Group of English and Cultural Studies is in the School of Social and Cultural Studies, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at The University of Western Australia.

The group has a strong undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program, and is actively involved in research.

Areas of specialisation include:

UWA has been awarded the new national Chair in Australian Literature. It will be based in English and Cultural Studies and the Westerly Centre.

Congratulations to Bob White, whose latest book Pacifism and English Literature was recently published has been featured as 'Book of the Week' in the Times Higher Education Supplement in London on 17 April.

Daniel Erickson's PhD is to be published as a monograph by Palgrave Macmillan as Ghosts, Metaphor, and History in Toni Morrison's Beloved and Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. It is scheduled for publication in March 2009. Dan did both his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at UWA and his PhD was passed with a Distinction in 2005.
